This painting brings together a host of musical saints, the makers of the magic that is the essence of New Orleans’ musical culture. I envisioned them in this paneled back room at some VFW Hall somewhere, eating crawfish and drinking Dixie Beer, under the holy rays of a neon light! Left to right: Ernie K-Doe, Aaron Neville, Dr. John, Buddy Bolden, Pete Fountain, Fess, James Booker, Louis Armstrong, Danny Barker, Fats Domino, Allen Toussaint, Jelly Roll Morton, and Al Hirt. This is the essence of “The Gospel According to New Orleans”!

This painting is the epitome of “The Gospel According to New Orleans”, my collection of iconic New Orleans musicians, commemorates their role in the evolution of the eccentric culture and music traditions of New Orleans. All depicted in this series are musical and cultural icons who make or live on through their significant contributions to the uniqueness of what composes the spirit of New Orleans. They exemplify the joie de vivre that runs through all aspects of life here in all of its diversity.
