The Sentinel, Laurel St, 12×16

/ Friday, June 12th, 2015

When I 1st moved to New Orleans 6 years ago and went out walking my dog Beazley for the 1st time, I passed this house at the corner of Laurel and Webster. The whole back of it had been torn off by the winds of Katrina, but the front still stood -vacant, damaged, but proudly guarded by the post of the cast iron fence. It was right after Mardi Gras and someone had draped a single strand of beads on it just as I have painted it. It was standing guard as a Sentinel, as it had for likely well over a 100 years.
